The DisOrient Asian American Film Festival kicks off Friday, but it will be completely online because of COVID-19.
The festival’s executive director, Pamela Quan, said she’s excited for viewers to virtually attend and connect with filmmakers, but she also said it will be difficult to recreate the level of engagement that’s possible in-person in a theater.
“When you’re with people you don’t know and experiencing the film and hearing it in the theater, it prompts conversation in a way you don’t have otherwise,” Quan said.
