Almost 100 cars targeted by thieves in Gateshead in just one month
Nearly 100 cars were targeted by thieves in Gateshead in just one month, police have said.
Neighbourhood officers are warning residents to keep their doors locked after 97 reports of theft in central and east of the borough.
The majority of crimes have seen thieves target unlocked vehicles and make off with valuables that have been left inside.
Money, electronic equipment and power tools are among some of the items stolen in the raids.
Police are analysing data and targeting patrols in communities that are seeing significant spikes in incidents to try and catch those responsible.
