Doctors warn Test and Trace chaos make second coronavirus peak ‘inevitable’
Doctors have predicted a second coronavirus peak within months unless the Test and Trace system is rapidly fixed.
At the weekend it emerged some 4.5 million high risk people could be told to shield at home as cases rise.
In the North East the weekly rate in Sunderland has risen from 34.2 to 94.3, with 262 new cases.
And while Gateshead, Newcastle and South Tyneside are all on the Government watch list they are some way off with 74.2, 64.3 and 75.5 cases per 100,000 people, respectively.
Dr Chaand Nagpaul, British Medical Association council chair, said: “We want to avoid a return to the scenes in April, when hospitals were full.”
